“Solo or two, the First 14 is a simple, fun and sturdy sailboat. Particularly worked in its design and ergonomics, this dinghy is the ideal gateway to navigation and the pleasures of skiing.”
Designed by Sam Manuard, the planing hull of the First 14 seeks the best compromise between stability and speed. The dual drifting well allows solo sailing without the jib (remote drift and Cat rig) or two (advanced drift and three-sail set). With its canvas area ranging from 8.5 to 21.5 square meters, the First 14 multiplies the possibilities and adapts to all levels of practice. Designed for the greatest diversity of size and weight of the teammates, the cockpit multiplies the seat heights: on the longest edges, comfort is at the rendezvous. With its game of removable wheels, the First 14 affirms in small details its objective: to simplify to the extreme the practice of the sail.
The complete configuration with mainsail / Foc / Spi can be reduced in navigation: it is enough to roll the jib and to move the drift towards the back and to adjust the size of the mainsail according to the crew. This adaptability allows the experts a practice in strong wind, while children or teens will feast in medium wind. The Cat configuration (mainsail only) can easily evolve to a complete rig: all attachment points are already integrated into the boat.
LIGHT BUT ROBUST
The 67 kg First 14 can be easily transported on the roof of a car or on a small trailer. Its sandwich construction with vacuum infusion optimizes weight while ensuring strength and longevity.
With a hull width of 1.70 m. and of a very studied longitudinal form, the First 14 offers a reassuring behavior whatever the weight of the crew: it ‘hovers’ quickly and does not dive.
